Tree removal in Dixons Creek
Dixons Creek is farm and forest north-east of Yarra Glen that burnt badly in 2009. The farm overlays and the bushfire rules decide most tree work here.

The rule in Dixons Creek
Of our 490 points in Dixons Creek, 361 were under SLO6 and another 35 under SLO2. Most of the rest was public conservation land. On a private block the permit usually covers native vegetation of any size and trees over:
- 1.1 m
- around the trunk, 1.3 m above the ground: about 35 cm through.
- 4 m
- Inside 4 m of a building, no permit under either overlay.
- 10 m
- The 10/30 rule: every point was in a Bushfire Prone Area, and 278 in the Bushfire Management Overlay. The conditions.
The two overlays part ways on regrowth: SLO2 exempts it when it is under 10 years old on lawfully cleared land, SLO6 never does.

After 2009
Dixons Creek was hit hard on Black Saturday, when the fire front ran northeast through Steels Creek, Dixons Creek and Chum Creek, and many houses were lost. Fire-killed trees are dead vegetation, which SLO6 and SLO2 exempt. ESO1, at 244 points, is the catch: it keeps a permit for a standing dead tree more than 1.3 m around the trunk.
An erosion overlay came up at 41 points, on farm and conservation land, and needs a permit for any vegetation there apart from a tree 50 cm or less around, anything within 2 m of a building, dead vegetation where the soil is put back, and lopping for health.
